Media

 I keep a robust social media presence on Instagram, X, LinkedIn and YouTube, showing my life as a professor, cheering on students and colleagues, connecting with journalists, professors and sources, sharing stories I've recently read, passing along latest AP style guidelines and relevant reminders, and providing tips on journalistic writing and storytelling for people at all stages of their careers.

Instagram

@proflorijohnston

I model how journalists have a social media presence by showing my work as a professor and journalist, giving behind-the-scenes insight into the reporting process, and sharing the work of students, alumni and journalists with posts and stories. I use highlights for different assignments, such as our event coverage, news conference and digital portfolios, and key skills, such as AP style and using social media.

I also use Instagram for a personal nature, sharing updates about my family, hobbies such as working out and reading, and my interest in travel destinations such as Disney World, where I plan to offer a study away program soon.

X

@fastcopy

I went viral on X after ESPN used my post during the 2020 NFL Draft about the home of then-NFL coach Kliff Kingsbury that my son and I built using Lego.

I also use X to share stories I read that serve as strong examples of reporting and interviewing as well as how reporters tweet from live events and breaking news to keep their audiences informed.

LinkedIn

@lorijohnstonwriter

I keep tabs on industry changes related to job postings, media trends and information disorder through LinkedIn. It's also a key source of connection with current and former students, colleagues at UGA and at other universities.

I use my profile to show my skills, celebrate successes and share the work of our students in the college and beyond.

 I provide guidance on AP Stylebook, quotations, attributions, interviewing and more.

Speaking Engagements: Symposiums and Conferences

 I have hosted and participated in panel discussions and talks on journalism industry trends, interviewing, freelancing and covering difficult topics such as poverty at these events:
